Genre and place attachment

This unit investigates how place attachment figures in different literary genres. The approach to genre and place attachment may be twofold: students can investigate both what role place and attachment to place has in different literary genres, and how place and place attachment work differently in different genres. They may then also reflect on how their own sense of place is affected by their readings in different genres.

Courses may include texts of a wide variety of genres, including, but not limited to, novels, poetry, crime fiction, historic fiction, spy fiction, regional literature, nature writing, travel writing and children’s literature (including picture books). Suggestions for readings in some of these genres are given below.
