Literature and the Wadden Sea

Mini units

These units are designed to fit into a more traditional disciplinary course, which could be in literature, ecology and many other disciplines. They aim to introduce a small element of inter- or transdisciplinary work into the wider disciplinary course. There are two units: one on literature, aimed at students in disciplines other than literature, in particular but not limited to students in the natural sciences; and one on ecology, aimed at students in the humanities. Both units introduce the concept of naïve realism, to help students reflect on different ways of producing knowledge in the sciences and humanities, and to encourage them to judge literary texts on their own principles and criteria. We recommend that educators teaching either of these units consult colleagues in the relevant discipline, if it is not their own.
